Together we can end hunger and hardship – learn more by reading the Hardship Times

10th December 2024

During the summer, people across the UK shared their experiences of hope and hardship onto tablecloths in their communities. The stories revealed the devastating consequences of a social security system that’s failing to protect people from going without the essentials, as well as a growing movement for change which is calling on the UK government to take urgent action on hunger. Thank you very much to everyone who shared their story.

On 20 November, food banks, people with lived experience of hardship and anti-poverty charities, alongside LadBaby and Levi Roots, gathered at Parliament Square to take these stories straight to Westminster. They did this by unveiling a bold new newspaper, The Hardship Times, which shared these powerful messages from tablecloths and highlighted the need for the UK government to take urgent action on hardship.

Your voice was heard. As Trussell published its latest data showing that food banks in its community distributed more than 1.4 million emergency food parcels in the last six months, these often-hidden stories were given a powerful platform as The Hardship Times brought them directly to Westminster. As Parliament Square was transformed into a hub of activity, the collective voice of hundreds was clear – the UK government must take immediate action on hardship and hunger.
