📢Take Action to Protect Our Social Security System

2nd May 2025

More people in Bromley could be left unable to afford the essentials if the UK government goes ahead with plans to cut disability and social security payments. The government is proposing severe cuts to disability support, even though disabled people are already three times more likely to go hungry according to anti-poverty charity, Trussell.

These planned cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and related support are not just cruel- they’re counterproductive. Nearly a third of people receiving PIP are already in work, using that support to manage the extra costs of living with a disability and to stay employed. Removing that help risks pushing more people out of work- not into it.

At Bromley Borough Foodbank, 62% of the households we supported over the past year included someone with a long-term health condition or disability. We’ve already seen a 10% increase in referrals in 2025, and these cuts are likely to push even more people through our doors.

We don’t need short-term savings that lead to long-term costs—we need policies rooted in economic sense and compassion.

👉Take action: Write to your MP today and urge them to call on the Work and Pensions Secretary to rethink these damaging plans.
